A beautiful sized painting on Birch wood perfect for over a couch or fireplace. Easily framed if desired but it is a gallery size, so no frame is needed. The edges have been stained to a soft natural glow
In my mind -It's twilight and the air is a bit warm and misty the sun has just set and a large, majestic moose has been drinking along the northern shore. he turns to head back into the dense woods with a young raven on his antler peering back towards the shore.
We may have witnessed this scene long ago but the moose where I live are now gone. Moose are native to Michigan and were once widespread, but hunting and habitat loss nearly eliminated them from the mainland by the 19th century. A reintroduction program in the mid‑1980s, importing moose from Ontario, re‑established them in the western Upper Peninsula. They airlifted 59 moose into the territory. The goal was to create a self-sustaining moose population, revitalizing the native species after its decline due to habitat loss and unregulated hunting. So far, the reintroduction has not been a huge success, and the moose population has remained sparse.
The moose have a large cultural importance for the Anishinaabe community in Michigan. The moose is one of the seven major Anishinaabe totems, forming the Mooz (Moozoons, Moozoonsii, Moozwaanowe) clans
